Google vs. Bing

As reported by several media, Microsoft's new search engine "Bing" has made a good debut in the business. StatCounter has identified that after two weeks of its formal introduction, Bing has overtook Yahoo as the second rank search engine, following the incumbent Google :-D ... O.k. true, it might still be changed as time goes, Yahoo might strike back :-D ... Google might innovate something to defend its (currently-reduced) market share.

But that all is not the reason for me to write this post entry :-D ... so what? I found an interesting thing as I tried Bing. It seems that Bing put some facilities locally instead of centrally e.g. at Microsoft's domain. Evidence ? I saw that, from my country, bing.com registered from AS 17974! This is however different with the way Google currently works: if you access Google.com from anywhere in the world you will notice that it is served from within AS 15169! So, Bing is local! ... Any comments ? :-D

Bing.com (from my ISP standpoint):
  • AS 17974 (Telkom)
  • BGP Prefix 125.160.0.0/16
  • bing.co.id redirected to bing.com with "id" parameters
  • Google's PageRank 2 (not bad for several weeks presence, right ?)
